Headteachers, Principals And Their Deputies With No Masters/Degrees To Be Demoted By TSC Next Year

Secondary school principals and their deputies will be required to have master's degree in education. Headteachers and their deputies will be required to have a degree to hold office.
Teachers Service Commission head Nancy Macharia has handed school heads the surprise of the century by outlining the new guidelines on leadership of schools.
She said school heads will be required to have the above stated academic qualifications by next year or be given time to go and get the said qualifications.
This she said was to improve quality of service delivery in the education sector. She told the 12,000 heads to take the new policies in good faith and make the necessary adjustments.
Another new development announced was no school head would serve in one station of work for more than 9 years. Many schools in the country as it stands have had one school head for more than two decades.

No school head will serve in their home counties to enhance cohesion especially with the high tribal tensions being experienced in the country.
Schools with many streams, especially more than 2 streams, per class will be assigned more than one deputy teacher and more than one senior teacher.
These surprise announcement will see a huge scramble of teachers for university slots to acquire their degrees.
There are more than 31,000 school heads in the country and most of them fall below the qualifications line that the TSC has stipulated.
