Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

After the punishing campaign trail, governors across the country finally took their oaths of office. Especially interesting was the enthusiasm shown by first-time governors who are eager to avoid the fate of those they beat in the just concluded elections. For the first time, Kenya elected female governors and that was a sign of things to come as it will give more women the impetus to aspire for these seats and serve their people. Here are some photos of some of those who will serve for the next five years;

Uganda Police Say Businessman Was Behind Mysterious Ritual-Like Murders

The Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura, has said that a businessman was the mastermind of the Entebbe and Nansana women murders that puzzled locals. The Police Chief said that they had arrested suspects who linked the businessman to the murders and said they were done as ritual sacrifices.

"The suspect confessed that he had killed eight women on orders of a businessman here in Nansana. The blood is to feed his rituals to get more wealth," Gen Kayihura said.
He was speaking to residents of Kabumbi Zone, in Nansana Municipality on Tuesday, 22 August.

General Kayihura said the suspect connected to the murders revealed that the businessman hired him to collect women's blood for his ritual satisfaction.

According to the police, at least 17 women have been killed in Nansana Municipality and Katabi Town Council on Entebbe Road between May and August this year.
Out of those confirmed, nine were from Katabi and the other eight in Nansana.

Nansana's last victim was recorded on July 24 while the latest victim in Katabi was killed last weekend.

He said that mostly, the victims were sex workers who had been raped and strangled in isolated places in "the wee hours of the morning".

"Two were students," he said.

So far, at least six suspects are in police custody in regard to the murders.

He said police was doing well in investigations and promised that the crime will soon be over. He rubbished the claims by media that said the police could not solve the murders. The name of the businessman was not made public.

He added that the police were willing to work with local societies to help the youth in Nansana by giving them motorcycles to help fight unemployment , which was to blame for crime.

Members of Parliament Vow To Reject SRC's Salary Proposal

The Parliament Of Kenya

After all the wars and exchange of words, Kenya's Members of Parliament are back to doing what they know best. Speaking to the media, PSC member and Homabay women rep, Gladys Wanga said they will not allow the SRC to mistreat Members of Parliament. This was in response to the pay cut proposed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

Just before the general elections, the SRC announced the new salary guidelines for public servants. MPs were the biggest losers in new salary cuts for top officials intended to save taxpayers Sh9 billion annually.
Besides a reduction in basic salary, Members of the National Assembly and Senators lost five allowances, including a Sh5 million car grant.

Combined, the scrapped perks meant that on average the monthly salary of an MP would reduce by at least Sh455,000 a month, a significant reduction for the 416 MPs.

Out of Sh8.8 billion savings resulting from the salary review for State Officers by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, MPs will surrender Sh3.7 billion.

Aside from having their pay reduced from Sh710,000 to Sh621,250 per month, MPs collectively lost their Sh2 billion car grant.

Other allowances that were abolished are the special parliamentary allowance, reimbursable mileage allowance, sitting allowance for plenary sessions and special responsibility allowances.

Ms. Gladys Wanga, representing the newly elected MP's said that she thinks it is fallacious to say it is the MPs who are increasing the wage bill.

Given recent history, in times like these, all MP's usually unite for a common cause and it is expected that Ms. Wanga was not speaking on behalf of herself.

Also involved in the drama was the new Kiambu Woman Rep, Gathoni wa Muchomba. She had said that the campaigns took a lot of resources and she deserved to be paid well. This comment was later retracted when Kiambu residents threatened to recall her and force a by-election.

And as usuals, Kenyans on Twitter were monitoring the situation.

No. You Are Not The Best She Ever Had. She Lied.

All Hail The King!!|@theotherh2

When your partner says you are the “best they’ve ever had” that is quite the compliment, right? Now you can puff your chest out and claim you are the 'boss'.
Basically, she means that out of all the men she has been with, she chooses you as the crème de la crème. The G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) of her entire life. Calm down, there is a chance she lied.

Unfortunately, most people don’t settle down with a partner that they consider to be the “best” they have ever had. So if she is lying to you about your 'unmatched' skills between the sheets, maybe you should not be offended.

She is just trying to feed up your ego and make you happy but you should definitely take her words with a pinch of salt.
Some partners require time to perfect their chemistry and not everyone starts with mind blowing times in the sack.

Hol' up! Don't get it twisted, there are times she will tell you that you are the best just not to hurt you.

I got you covered though. Here are seven signs that show she is probably lying.

She Shows You Articles That Explain How You Should Do It. Ha-ha. She means well but there is definitely room for improvement.

Her Drive Disappears. Look, 'best you ever had' should rival rabbits in frequency and intensity. Lol. Just saying.

She Does Not Want To Talk About It. Successful couples talk about their life in the bedroom. If it gets awkward when it comes to that topic, are you really the best?

You Catch Her In The Act. Yup. This means you find her scoring own goals. Not that it is wrong, but you should score enough for her not to need own goals.

She Seems Frustrated. At the peak of great bedroom business comes freedom to do whatever you can. But if she always seems frustrated that shows you are not hitting it right. Bruh!!, it was a lie.

She Avoids Kissing. Well, if you didn't know, kissing is an intimate part of the whole thing. It portrays closeness and is a key segment of foreplay. If that is avoided and she just wants to rush things then that title you have is false. You can't rush something that you want to last forever.

She Never Initiates. If you want something good, you go get it. If it is not the best, why should you keep going for it? Enough said.

Last week, gunmen shot two policemen in Kibichoi, Kiambu fatally wounding them. Police set up a manhunt to nab the gangsters who got away with an AK47 rifle.
Earlier today, an unidentified man presented himself, in the company of pastors, at Ngong Police Station and confessed that he was among the gunmen.

The officers on duty were stunned when the man, Thomas Audi made the unexpected entry and surrendered himself. He was later handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kiambu according to the Ngong OCPD.
Police now say that the man named several suspects that they believe were involved in the fatal shooting of the officers.

The gunmen had ambushed the two officers, Marin Irungu and Paul Maina as they patrolled the Miti Kenda area last week.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen sprayed four bullets into each of the officers before they escaped on waiting motorcycles along the Kibichoi-Gathage road.

Kibichoi residents look on as police arrive at the scene where two of their colleagues were murdered last week.
Recently, police have borne the brunt of protesting citizens and gangsters as they try to maintain law and order.

Divide Kenya Into Two, Says David Ndii. Twitter Reacts.

David Ndii. NASA Coalition Head of Strategy
In a SENSATIONAL proposal, NASA Coalition head of strategy says it is time. It is indeed time to divide Kenya into two and have the people of Western Kenya, Coastal Kenya, and North West Kenya to secede and form their own country.

In his petition of self-determination, he claims that according to the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (1986). Basically, this charter gives people the right to freely determine their political status and pursue their economic and social development according to the policy they have freely chosen.

According to the petition document, successive governments have perpetuated a culture of impunity through rigged elections, that deny Kenyans from other tribes the ability to self-determine and even grow economically.

This debate has been on for a while, ever since NASA lost the election to the incumbents than later filed a petition to the Supreme Court.

The idea reached its height when David Ndii attended an interview by Larry Madowo on NTV.

The NASA head of strategy said that the coalition is well prepared for mass action in the event that the Supreme Court fails to consider evidence that they gathered and presented.

"We have been calling for mass action since 1991 and we will not stop as long as some people try to restore dictatorship,” he said during the interview.

“Protestors do not kill, they only resist oppression. It is the police who shoot and kill when protesters resist. Any killing is initiated by the government. We will call for mass action,” he said.
"If change cannot come through the ballot, it will come through the bullet," he added.

This is what Kenyans on Twitter had to say;

'Minji Minji' Sworn In As DP Ruto Watches

Ann Waiguru taking her oath as the new Kirinyaga County Governor on Tuesday, 22 August.

After all the drama that surrounded her time as Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning, she made a decision that bore fruits. Anne Mumbi Waiguru was a woman under siege and even Deputy President, William Ruto was not left behind terming her as 'yule wa kizungu mingi'.

Fast forward and Ms. Anne Waiguru was on Tuesday sworn in as the new governor of Kirinyaga County. She is part of the first female governors under Kenya's new constitution.
The ceremony, held at the Kirinyaga University Grounds, was graced by one man who, several months ago could not see eye to eye with her.
It is true that politics offers no permanent friends or enemies. In this circle, your interests determine who your friend will be.
Deputy President, William Ruto arrived and the grounds and was received by Ms. Waiguru herself.

Amidst all the smiles, it was hard to tell if it is these two that exchanged bitter words during the NYS Scandal.

Ms. Waiguru was later sworn in and the 'Minji Minji' euphoria had come to its climax. She beat Martha Karua in a tight contest that some say was already decided during the campaigns. Ms. Waiguru's modern style of campaigning combined with meets and greets all over the county won over the hearts of the residents of Kirinyaga. They had installed one of their own to the throne. The Queen now holds the crown.

Why Sonko Might Be Nairobi's Best Governor Yet

Image result for mike mbuvi sonko
Mike Sonko in his element
His life is that of controversy. Everywhere he has been, his charm has been his way out. In the midst of all the drama, he has always charmed the local man or woman- they could identify with him. He was one of them. Starting as a member of parliament of Makadara constituency in Nairobi then upwards to Senator of Nairobi County, the man now sits at the helm of the city.

We have instant riches story such as Githeriman, then we have Gideon Mbuvi Kioko a.k.a Mike Sonko. Born on February 27, 1975, Sonko came into the public scene due to the fleet of Eastlands matatus that he owned. The source of this wealth is questionable and nobody can really prove where it came from.

Either way, Nairobians were introduced to a man with money and money that he was willing to share.
His first stint came when he floored political bigwigs in the Makadara by-election. This was a dark horse that nobody knew about, yet he beat his opponents hands down.

The script repeated in 2013 when he clinched the Nairobi Senator seat. He was flamboyant, controversial but the electorate still loved him.

Why would a huge number of Nairobians vote for a man whose education record was dismal if not non-existent? Why would they select a man whose source of wealth was 'unknown'?

One reason that sticks out is his development record. Critics label his style retrogressive, for he dishes out money instead of looking for long-term options. This is not entirely true.

During his time as MP for Makadara, the man introduced several youth programs to help his constituents improve their livelihoods. He also later got involved in several social campaigns to help common mwananchi including the infamous Grogan land fiasco.
Besides his generosity, many know of his family of three daughters and they trust him despite his questionable record.

Earlier in the year, when he went against Peter Kenneth in the Jubilee primaries, he suffered numerous setbacks. Clearly, someone was not comfortable with his candidature. He beat the odds again to emerge the victor and went ahead to represent Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.

From then, something interesting happened. The controversial Mike Sonko disappeared and there emerged a different man. Sonko now dressed in suits and during the gubernatorial debate, he was seen to present decorum that few had seen before.

Several suggested that the reality had sunk in. For him to win the hearts of the Nairobi electorate, he had to portray maturity. He had to show that he was ready to represent Nairobi as the important county and business hub it is in Africa.

Mike Sonko changes dress code as he eyes to unseat Kidero
Sonko in his new mojo.

The strategy worked and he was declared the winner in the gubernatorial contest.

Here is a man who saw the need to transform to win the hearts of Nairobians. Once it was official, he unleashed the Sonko Rescue team to clean up Nairobi. In his manifesto, he promises to tackle two of the city's major issues-traffic jams and garbage. If and when he succeeds in these, he will definitely be on his way to a second term. Given his previous development records, bets can be set that he will play a hand in the transformation of Nairobi.

Below is a summary of what he intends to do in Nairobi in the first 100 days and his five-year term:

Boni Forest: The Al-Shabaab Hide-Out That KDF Is About To Blow Up Again

After a break during the just concluded elections, the Kenya Defence Forces on Sunday, 20 August resumed bombing Boni Forest in Lamu, the hideout of  Al-Shabaab militia.

The forest has been home to one of Al-Shabaab’s elite groups, Jaysh Al-Ayman, one of  Al-Shabaab's elite groups have camped in the forest since  2012/13 after the launch of Kenyan soldiers to Somalia.

Local residents reported hearing loud blasts from inside the thick forest and sounds of explosions and military planes could be heard from as far away as Garsen town in Tana River County.

I call on locals who are still living inside or near the forest to vacate. The bombing of Al-Shabaab hideouts in the forest will begin anytime soon or I can say it’s happening now. The kind of bombing that will happen will be too hot for anyone to stay inside. I am aware that some herders have for several times been spotted grazing their animals inside Boni forest and its surrounding areas. We will bomb the forest in a very short while and that’s why we are asking those around to move out. We are coming for the Al-Shabaab with a more serious force than ever before. If you don’t move out, we will bomb you and you won’t blame anyone.

He warned those leaking government information to the terrorists that they will face severe consequences.
"If you give al Shabaab food and information, even if it is your son, father, brother or uncle, do you think we will care?"

"These people kill innocent people and you go ahead to assist them? We will hunt for you just like we do al Shabaab," he warned.

He said they have several terror suspects in their custody and will take them to court soon.

The Linda Boni Operation to kick out Al-Shabaab militants was launched by the late Interior Cabinet Secretary Major (retired) General Joseph Nkaissery on September 15, 2015.
