Mixed Reactions As Google Removes 'View Image' Button
Google has finally bowed to pressure from photographers, publishers and photo libraries and removed the "View Image" button from its search results.
The button allowed users to view an image and download it directly from the search results without having to visit the website providing the image.
Many creatives had been against such ease of accessing the images saying it was responsible for massive copyright infringements online.
This update is as a result of a peace deal Google is striking with Getty, an online photo library which has been at the forefront of creatives' struggle with Google.
Google has said it is in consultations with all involved shareholders to ensure they strike a midpoint where no one is hurt by any updates they make. Google has been seen to largely serve users' needs than the needs of publishers.
Many users have however complained that this update is a step backward and should not have been effected. This is coming from the fact that you can click on a website link to look for an image only to fail to find the image on the website you visited.
Swaleh Mdoe Puts His Kidney On Sale To Offset Debts

Citizen TV Swahili news anchor has decided to throw caution in the air by going to the extreme of putting his kidney on sale to offset problems he has termed as financial and urgent.
Speaking to local media, he said he was broke and in dire need of cash. His bank has not been able to help him thus his decision to sell his kidney.
Swaleh Mdoe who is best known by Kenyans for his signature Tafakari Ya Babu segment on Citizen TV has said he plans to put up a paid advert on local dailies to invite interested buyers to come for his kidney.
The news anchor has also said he resorted to this means for the fact that it is legal in Kenya to sell your kidneys and it was far much better than stealing.
Swaleh Mdoe was once in the news for all the wrong reasons after it emerged that he was under investigations by his employer for allegations that he received a bribe from Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to kill a story.
He was suspended from Royal Media Services but has since been reinstated.
We wish the celebrated anchor all the best.

Illuminati In Kenya: Why SoundCloud Rapper Lil Lee Sold His Soul To The Devil
The T Bag hit singer and owner of record label Young Niggas Nation may just yet drop the biggest hit and deliver the most significant punch of any musicians career.
In the production of his new single studio song The Star may have slipped and let loose a few secrets in a frenzy to deliver for his loyal fans.
Controversy has been a close companion for Lil Lee Jefferson from the moment he let loose the club banger TBag and it's not close to ending given his new project.
Dead Presidents features a lot of allusion and imagery that may suggest The Star has gone under for motivation and maybe bargained soul for soul with the man under.

A Promotion Cover For Dead Presidents |
Exclusive images to be used for cover really add hype to the snowballing grapevine of Jefferson breaking past the ceiling into the realm below.
The former Hat Trick artist branched out following a fallout and established a rocketing label YNN Records. Being a self proclaimed Dance-hall and hip-hop producer and writer/director at YNN Records proved to be the kiln for LJnati as he is fondly touted by fans competition and enemies in the industry.
Following Ljnati's exit from Hat Trick the grapevine was ladden with his commitments towards a secret society that interfered with productivity and subsequently led to his being 'kicked out'
LJnati whose nose is stuffed with cotton and embossed on currency for his next music video boasts lush living, laughs at the thought of being in a secret society. He is a nigga getting paid, getting head and has got diamonds in his teeth.

Dead Presidents Lyrics |
Unlike his peers LJnati is proud of his life achievement and would gladly introduce the whole lot to the devil if they had enough rhymes and skill to impress.

Breaking News: Attorney General Githu Muigai Resigns
Professor Githu Muigai has today resigned as the Attorney General. This announcement was made by Uhuru Kenyatta on Twitter. No reason has been given for the shock resignation.
Uhuru Kenyatta said that he regreted the resignation and went ahead to name Justice Paul Kihara as Githu's replacement.
This announcement comes as a surprise as it was in the public domain that the president had renewed his trust on the attorney general after the elections. He was instrumental in the actions the government has taken on those who participated in the swearing in of Raila Odinga.I have received with regret the resignation of Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai. I thank him for his service for the last six and a half years. I have nominated as his replacement Judge Paul Kihara Kariuki.

How To Miss 75% Of Lectures In Kenyan Universities And Still Graduate With Honours
I'll be honest.
I did not miss my lectures in university.
Well, probably one or two. I had good reasons. I think.
We have two breeds in university. Self-sponsored students and those who get loans through the Higher Education Loans Board(HELB). That you'd better get the best insurance policy than HELB is fodder for another day.
During my time, getting a B plus in the final secondary school exam would get you space in a university. At first, we had the few major universities i.e University of Nairobi, Maseno, Moi, JKUAT etc as the options.
Then our former president Mwai Kibaki became generous.
He made almost all existing colleges into universities.
The first step was the lexicon awkwardness that is 'University Colleges' then slowly they started receiving charters to be 'fully-fledged universities'. This 'promotion' happened even though investment in the institutional infrastructure was not as massive.
Soon, we had crowded universities and they introduced the funny courses that I trust you have heard of. Kenyan university courses are getting complicated by the day.
Bachelor of Software Engineering. School of Computer Informatics and Science.
Just an example.
Problem is that college did not have internet and 60% of the students did not have laptops. The rest did not know how to use them.
The option that existed was the computer labs, which were tiny and had old computers that you had to share with students from other courses. Most of them came to Facebook and email.
So we had two problems.
Facilities to support learning were below par.
Lecturers were unqualified and boring.
How else would you explain someone with a higher diploma in computer science teaching undergrads?
Our option was to slave and religiously attend all classes to receive teaching from a boring teacher or go watch movies and learn elsewhere. We chose the latter.
I was lucky I had a laptop and could occasionally find Wi-Fi to download open source notes.
My classmates chose the other way.
The external memory way, if you know what I mean.
Wait, you did not understand that? You need your brain for the exam (internal memory) or if it is too busy, you opt for the external memory.
We were back to square one.
The pathetic system of reading to pass exams.
If after the exams you asked what I just wrote, I wouldn't tell you.
So I never missed my lectures. I just missed the school's lectures. 70% or 75% of them.
I passed my exam. That was all they needed, right?
Show that I could remember what was taught.
Is it worth it? No.
I wish I could have done other things. I have a degree now. I can apply for jobs with it.
In interviews, I prove that I am a level-headed human. That's all.
What if I had spent that time actually learning from the university?
Maybe the tuition fee I paid would be worth it.
Am I complaining?
Absolutely not.
Do what you have to do.
Avoid the external memory though. It is not pretty when you get caught. You do not want to pay for hefty legal fees in Nairobi.
And use your 75% free time well.
Your kids deserve it.
Disclaimer: This does not apply to Medicine, Law, Engineering and probably Actuarial Science students. The rest of you -- Enjoy and be smart about it.

Blow To Babu Owino As Court Orders Vote Recount
Babu Owino's parliamentary seat has today been put in limbo after a high court judge ordered for a vote recount in Embakasi East constituency.
The youthful member of parliament's victory was challenged by his main opponent Jubilee's Francis Mureithi who claims the election was marred with violence and irregularities.
Babu Owino was against a vote recount saying that his opponent had colluded with Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission to interfere with ballot papers and stuff the boxes before resealing them again to snatch him his victory.
The presiding judge said he was satisfied with reasons given by the petitioner on why a recount was necessary. The returning officer had admitted in court that the results he had announced did not tally with those that were on the official forms and that some forms did not have the official stamps as required by the law.
Babu Owino has repeatedly said he would beat Francis Mureithi hands down should a reelection be held in the coming future.
He has also been at the forefront of NASA's fight against the ruling party, a position that has had him jailed several times. He was at one point engaged in a bitter war of words with Jubilee leaders and even went ahead to allegedly call the president a dog during a public rally. He later denied the allegations. The matter is still in court.
The court will hear the final submissions on the case challenging his win on 26th of February this year.
Larry Madowo Fires Himself From The Nation Newspaper
Celebrated journalist has announced he is terminating his contract with Nation Media Group ran newspaper Nation where he had a weekly column called #FrontRow.
Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Larry Madowo said it was an honor to have his articles on the newspaper and said he was grateful.
On Thursday, I terminated my contract to write the #FrontRow column in the Daily Nation[sic]. It was an honor and I am grateful to the paper for the page since August 2014.
This is coming after an apparent fallout between Larry Madowo and his employer after they refused to publish an article he had written. He went ahead to submit the article to CNN which published it.On Thursday, I terminated my contract to write the #FrontRow column in the @dailynation. It was an honour & I'm grateful to the paper for the page since August 2014.— Larry Madowo (@LarryMadowo) February 12, 2018
Read my most recent writing: on @cnni https://t.co/X5eedjtFcz & in the @washingtonpost https://t.co/XiSZKBkFrV
Larry Madowo has been largely seen as pro opposition with many of his detractors and government supporters saying he is often used by the opposition to push the opposition's propaganda and smear the government. This week, the @dailynation refused to print my column for the first time in nearly 4 years.— Larry Madowo (@LarryMadowo) February 9, 2018
The irony aside, the same piece is now published on CNN https://t.co/C01kj61tL9
He has denied these allegations saying he does not support either side and is only doing his job as a journalist.
The surprise announcement by Larry Madowo puts him in an awkward position putting into consideration the fact that he still works for NTV which is also under the Nation Media Group that he has publicly disagreed with.
Kenyan DJs Protest Spontaneous Arrests By NEMA
Kenyan disk jockeys have come out to protest what they have termed as constant harassment by National Environment Authority officers who have been arresting, in coordination with police officers, DJs accused of playing loud music in residential areas.

KNUT Demands For Promotion Of More Than 30,000 Teachers
More than 30,000 teachers are on the road to promotion after the Kenya National Union of Teachers stepped up the pressure on Teachers Service Commission to have those who have acquired higher qualifications to be promoted. Wilson Sossion says many teachers who are on the verge of retirement have been sideline in promotions for some unknown reasons.
The union through also wants appraisals to be stopped.
Embattled secretary general Wilson Sossion flanked by others in the union leadership said that they have engaged the employer in the past about delayed promotions, selective upgrading among other pertinent issues in the sector but TSC was unresponsive in their promises.
The union is now demanding that their employer effects all the promotions in this financial year without any further delay. Wilson Sossion says some promotions date back to as far as the year 2014.
Speaking during the same meeting, the union sought to address the issue of performance appraisals saying the exercise needed to be halted until exhaustive consultations have been done between the teachers and their employer.
According to KNUT, teachers have been subjected to suffering and the appraisals have bruised the relationship between teachers and head of institutions.
Teachers also spend more time putting their papers in order for performance appraisals than preparing for classes, making lesson plans and having time to listen to students and the problems they face while learning.
Dr Nancy Macharia has not responded to the demands being put on the table by Kenya National Union of Teachers.
Anita Nderu Is Now Kenya's Most Hated Celebrity
Anita
Nderu, once the dream bed companion of every boy in a high school dormitory, is
now at the bottom a furnace that is never put out.
She is the
most bullied and the most discussed media personality and celebrity in Kenya on
social media. Just how did she find herself in this uncomfortable place?
In the eyes
of a typical Kenyan on Twitter, Anita Nderu represents the rich and cool kids.
The privileged sons and daughters of politicians, tenderpreneurs, ranch owners
and business leaders. Those who were ‘born in money’ and have never had to
raise a finger to earn everything that they have achieved.
Anita Nderu
fits perfectly the description of a cool kid. She went through the British
curriculum, she claims she cannot speak Kiswahili and has either never tasted
some of Kenya’s most common and popular foods or is not aware of them at all.
Her rise to
the top has been very fast. Starting off from Teen Republik, a magazine show
aired on NTV on Saturdays, she soon landed a job as at Capital FM as a news
anchor. She features prominently on #TTTT aired on NTV and is a Blaze mentor.
Blaze, an entrepreneurship and mentorship program ran by Safaricom is premium
by all definitions and being part of it is no easy achievement.

Anita Nderu At A Blaze Summit |
She has
been categorical in saying that she has worked for everything she has and is
not at all privileged, contrary to popular opinion. She says she has had to go
through the process of auditioning as everyone else and should not be
victimized based on a false narrative being pushed by a blog that is after
hits.
I have been in the media industry for 7 years. I have been an advocate for the youth winning. Yet a blog in search of hits managed to convince you otherwise. I did not steal anyone's job, you may not care for the truth but I will share the TRUTH on @theTrendLive tonight.— Anita Nderu (@AnitaNderu) January 26, 2018
Anita
Nderu’s latest achievement is what seems to be the main catalyst of her fallout
with the online army.
Capital
FM’s choice of Anita as the replacement of Amina Abdi was not taken well by people
inside and outside the media industry.
Just realised I lost a competition where one of the judges at my audition was declared one of the winners😂😂🤦🏾♀️ What was even the point? Whether she will survive this storm or not is up to time to tell.
Hits Not Homework Is Losing Ratings And Fans Fast: Here’s Why
Hits Not
Homework, Capital FM’s rush hour show, is now at its lowest point in its entire
history of existence.
The show
which was once hosted by renowned and celebrated radio presenters like Eve
D’Souza has been on a downward spiral after Amina Abdi’s exit. The ratings are
tanking by each passing day and there seems to be no tangible damage control
from the producers of show.
Hits Not
Homework is flying on autopilot and it is clear to fans and former fans that
the show is on self-destruct mode.
It all
started when Capital FM began scouting for a young presenter to replace Amina
Abdi who had found a new home in The Trend. The auditions dubbed The Capital
One aimed at finding a formidable replacement who did not necessarily have to
have any prior experience in radio.
Many young
men and women were enthusiastic about the process and they all went through the
process of submitting test videos and attending the auditions which were judged
by Capital FM staff like Anita Nderu and other celebrities.
Capital FM
pulled a fast one on all who had braved all obstacles to attend the auditions
by giving Anita Nderu the job even though she was a judge during the auditions
and had been in the industry for more than 5 years even though The Capital One
had been put out there as searching for new talent.
What
followed was a social media storm that saw participants of the competition, media
personalities and sympathizers attack Capital FM for taking them for a ride.
In a bid to
save face, Hits Not Homework stated that they had picked three winners and they
would join Anita Nderu in steering the show. Many saw this as a damage control
gimmick as it was not what they had stated earlier.
Now the
show was under Anita Nderu, Anne Mwaura, Tracy Wanjiru and a little known DJ.
They were received with a fire baptism but many optimists hoped the storm would
calm as the journey progressed.
A series of
mistakes by the show producers now threaten to tear apart the show. The show
seems to target the very young pre campus and campus audience going by the
relationship topics discussed by the presenters.
How helpful is this conversation???? Of all the issues bediviling the nation this is what you could come up with?? Really ??? Bure kabisa...— Sam Kiura (@Samkiura) February 8, 2018
There are deeper issues affecting millennials, depression and mental health, orientation, poverty, sexual abuse e.t.c trust me, that's content people want to listen to, not just about sex and petty relationship issues.— Kwena (@MGKwena) February 7, 2018
This
approach has two major loopholes. The target audience is nearly nonexistent and
the previous presenters had over the years grown with the audience and now that
audience feels misplaced.
The youth
in the bracket being targeted by Anita and company barely listens to radio.
They are watching movies and series throughout the day and night, they are
watching football and involving in bed activities.
Many who
used to tune in to the show have complained that Anita has brought Maina and
King’ang’i from morning to evening. A topic such as “Should your partner’s
phone have a password?” is synonymous with Maina Kageni’s Classic 105 morning
show.
Hits not Homework is now just a Maina and King'ang'i that doesn't sell land.— Phanto (@_wangwe) February 7, 2018
And
recently when Kenyan models in the fashion and commercial industry were
complaining of exploitation and sexual harassment, Hits Not Homework brought in
a person who is allegedly involved in the exploitation and another who is
allegedly privileged to participate in the conversation and offer solutions to
the issue.
Why not interview @sheila_kanini who started the #paymodelske hashtag and was brave enough to share her experiences and start a much needed conversation?— StyleByShary (@SharonKMwangi) February 8, 2018
Anyway, I guess y'all just wanna interview your friends soooo 🤷♀️ https://t.co/3tWAQAXjjr
Many felt
this was out of touch and meant to benefit from a disaster. Their apology after
the show has done little to help the situation.
Hi @AmalMAbdul @sheila_kanini we would love to have you on the show to share your experiences #Paymodelske— #HNH984 (@HitsNotHomework) February 8, 2018
