Kenyan Explains Why Trash Music Is Here With Us To Stay

Kenyan Explains Why Trash Music Is Here With Us To Stay

So let me start with the bad news: Those tracks you are seeing the crazy ones. Zitaongezeka... Here's why.

In entertainment the top goal is to achieve name recognition and face recognition. Traditionally the market was driven by content. So if you make good stuff then we learn your name and eventually learn your face.

Then you keep making good stuff and now you earn our trust and we stay with you. We come to your gigs and pay money to watch you play. Sometimes we even love you.

But... Game has changed. Now content is being driven more and more by talk-ability. So now the fastest route to name recognition by becoming a trending topic.

This is not only in music. In Kenya this is what drives politics. In fact it's Ezekiel Mutua's strategy. He looks to be or be associated with a trending topic everyday. And all your favorite leaders.

So the kids have figured this out. If we trend then we are almost there. In fact it's a major strategy worldwide. Remember Lady Gaga and wearing meat? What about those Met Gala dresses and clothes? All to create a conversation. The more outrageous the better.

So the kids have figured this out. If we trend then we are almost there. In fact it's a major strategy worldwide. Remember Lady Gaga and wearing meat? What about those Met Gala dresses and clothes? All to create a conversation. The more outrageous the better.

So what these new acts are doing is trying to get your attention. They have understood that attention is now a currency and they can build on that later. And it's a genius strategy.

That's how Jubilee Party won the election. And how Trump, Brexit and Drake happened.

The effect I'm Kenya scene is going to be compounded because Kenya content discovery system is irreparably broken. If it's trending it will end up on radio. Radio guys have no desire or inventive to look for content. Wanafuata trends tu.

So... This is only the beginning. And you know what's crazy? You will love a lot of that content in a short while (or it has already happened).

Feeling Unhappy At Home? These Are The Signs You Have Toxic Parents!

Feeling Unhappy At Home? These Are The Signs You Have Toxic Parents!

Forms of toxic parenting that need to come to an end. This thread could be triggering for some so please read and share with caution!

Not apologizing to your children when you mess up. Nobody is perfect. Not even parents. Parents mess up too but too many of them don’t like to own up to their wrong doings and simply refuse to apologize to their kids. This is toxic because you’re teaching your children that because they’re your kids and that you’re older, that they aren’t owed apologies and that their feelings don’t matter.

Treating your kids as property and extensions of yourself rather than human beings. Your kids are not objects or extensions of you. They’re human beings that WILL have their own sense of self, beliefs, thoughts, and opinions. You need to accept that.

Telling your daughters to “cover up” when you have male family members or any male guests in general come over. You’re teaching your daughter that if she is sexually harassed or assaulted, it’s her fault. Also, why invite a man into your home if you suspect he’s a creep?

Forcing your sons to be all “manly” and “macho” all the time. Basically toxic masculinity. Not allowing them to cry, express emotions, feminizing everything they do that doesn’t fit within your hyper-masculine standards.

Making your kids feel like a burden when you’re upset with them. They didn’t ask to be born and quite frankly they’re your responsibility.

Not teaching your sons how to clean and cook but making SURE that your daughters know how to clean and cook simply because they’re women and it’s their “job”. Teach your sons how to cook and clean too! That’s why so many men expect their girlfriends/wives to be second moms to them

Being extremely protective of your daughters while allowing your sons to be the men you’re trying to protect your daughters from.

The whole family and all your friends don’t need to hear from you about how badly your kid messed up. Your kid can learn from their mistakes without the extra judgement and shaming from the other half of the family and your uptight friends.

Punishing your kids online through videos, live streams etc. That actually goes BEYOND punishment. It’s abuse . You are publicly humiliating your child. Also, you are encouraging the bullies that they possibly have in their schools to bully them even more.

Using "because I said so" as reasoning with your kids. Communication skills doesn’t stop with your significant other and your friends. Give your kids actual valid reasons.

Shaving your daughters hair off as a punishment. You’re destroying her self esteem and making her the target of possible bullying at school. Just take away the phone or something.

Comparing siblings to each other and using one to uplift or bring down the other.

Blaming the oldest sibling for whatever they’re younger sibling(s) did wrong. You’re the parent. The oldest sibling isn’t a second parent and kids have minds of their own.

Denying that your child can have depression and or anxiety because they’re young and have food on the table and clothes on their back. Also thinking that it’s just a “phase."

Fathers STOP threatening every boy your daughter shows the slightest bit of interest in. At some point it’s not being “protective and caring" it’s possessiveness over your daughter and it’s creepy and weird.

Whooping your kids to the point that they flinch if you even raise your voice a little or look at them a certain way. Kids shouldn’t be terrified of their own parents.

Whooping and cursing at your kids in public. It’s humiliating, gross and so distasteful.

Shaming your kids for their interests. As long as it’s nothing bad or harmful let them enjoy things!

White Man Explains Why They Easily Colonized Kenya And Why The Chinese Are Doing It Again

White Man Explains Why They Easily Colonized Kenya And Why The Chinese Are Doing It Again

There has been a debate, for decades now, on what led to the colonization of Kenya, and Africa at large, and the events that took place after which saw the looting of natural resources, displacement of people and even death.

Ironically, some Africans came out of the turmoil richer than they could possibly ever be had the unfortunate events not happened.

Much has been said about a section of Kenyans selling out fellow Kenyans for quick financial gains. Such activities took back the war against colonization and made it harder to fight.

A British journalist has come out to claim that what made it easier for the British to colonize Kenya in the 20th Century is the same thing making it easier for the Chinese to capture Kenya, albeit economically this time.

Seeing the patently illegal Chinese developments going up near where I live reminds of why Kenya was so easy to colonize.
Kenya wasn't invaded; most of its land was given away to colonizers by local elites for short-term political and financial gain.
Of course, many ordinary Kenyans were less easy to colonize, as Nandi and Kikuyu resistance showed.
In other words, Kenya's people have been betrayed by their leaders far more often than they have been served by them.

BBC's Fake And Scripted Documentary On Night Running In Luoland Tickles Kenyans

BBC's Fake And Scripted Documentary On Night Running In Luoland Tickles Kenyans

The much awaited documentary, produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation, on the life of night runners in Luoland has finally been released and Kenyans can't help but notice the lack of truth in the documentary.

Tom Odula, a BBC journalist, and his camera crew follow a supposed night running couple in their night mischief and claim to be the only people to have ever recorded night runners while in action.

People we talked to, and those who have experienced night running by virtue of coming from regions where the ritual is practiced have poked holes at the documentary saying it was anything but real.

For context, read the following story.

Did BBC Run A Scripted Documentary On Night Running In Luoland?

Did BBC Run A Scripted Documentary On Night Running In Luoland?

The much awaited documentary, produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation, on the life of night runners in Luoland has finally been released and Kenyans can't help but notice the lack of truth in the documentary.

Tom Odula, a BBC journalist, and his camera crew follow a supposed night running couple in their night mischief and claim to be the only people to have ever recorded night runners while in action.

People we talked to, and those who have experienced night running by virtue of coming from regions where the ritual is practiced have poked holes at the documentary saying it was anything but real.

The night runners are known to run naked. In the BBC documentary, they were fully clothed and the lady in the video even had time to rock her leggings. Instead of doing what the people with that kind of mental illness do, she was serving the viewers her looks!

Night runners also reportedly become possessed in their line of duty and are said to shake uncontrollably, jump and roll on the ground. BBC's models were visibly in their right state of mind and even had time to complain of pain brought about by falling down.

The complaints coming from the occupants of the house the night runners were throwing stones and soil at also suggested that the disturbers were not night runners.

An old lady can be heard wondering loudly if that was really a night runner because she had thrown an unusually big stone at the roof.

Many Kenyans have accused the BBC of focusing on stories with shock value and ones that portray Africans in bad light.

And please, what is night running without the night runner riding on the back of a wild wounded hippopotamus?

You can watch the documentary here.
