Drama As Joe Irungu's Parents Contradict Each Other

The parents of Joe Irungu have come to give their version of the story about the happenings of the night that businesswoman, Monica Kimani was murdered. In an interview by NTV's Dennis Okari, Joe's biological father spoke on his view on the charges that haunt his lastborn son. However, his account was somewhat different from the account given by his mother.

Joe Irungu's parents say that reports that his DNA place him on the murder scene are false. The family requested anonymity for the interview and even asked for their faces to be covered due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Joe's father said that the news hit them hard and it was so unexpected that they did not have "strength" to speak to the media or even give a version of their story. He says they had to accept the matter and fight it and see how it goes. When asked when he last saw his son, he said that it was in Kijabe Hospital after he received a call from Jowie that he was hurt and in hospital. He said he went to see him in the company of his wife, Joe's mother. He says Joe was treated and discharged after a day and referred to MP Shah hospital. When asked if Joe was alone that night, he first says that he was alone then rectifies his account by saying Joe was in the company of a person (a friend) as he couldn't drive. He told his father that he was shot by unknown individuals. He confirmed that he only knew his son worked as a security official in Dubai, after completing a course in hotel management at Kenya Polytechnic. He confirmed that he knew nothing about Joe's work in Afghanistan. He says he knew of Jacque Maribe but had not met her.

Joe's father also said that police had not allowed them to take Jowie to hospital and it was a health risk for his son. He denied claims that Jowie DNA's had been taken and matched to samples found at the murder scene.

Furthermore, he added that a trained security expert cannot shoot himself on the chest, like Joe did if he really wanted to kill himself. He refuted the suicide rumours, which puts in question Jacque Maribe's statement that Joe tried to kill himself.

On the other hand, Joe's mother claims that it was Joe who called her and asked her to to inform his father that he was at Kijabe hospital after a shooting. In a interesting twist, the mother says that Jowie met a person at a hotel on that fateful night and then he went to pick up Jacque Maribe. She added that a motorbike trailed them from the hotel and he dropped off Jacque at the house before going out to investigate who followed them. It was then that he got into a fight with the assailants and had to play dead for them to leave him with injuries. She confirmed that Jacque was there at the hospital and that she knew of her engagement to her son and that they lived together.
She also confirmed that Jowie told her he didn't pick up Monica at the airport. Although several calls happened between them, Jowie's mother says it's confusing as contradicting reports say Jowie was at the airport to pick Monica yet he told him he never picked her up.
