Sonko Spent 6 Million On Fireworks
The government of Mike Sonko spent a staggering Sh6.3 million on fireworks for the New Year Celebrations. City Hall has been put to task to answer how exactly possible this was without some sort of swindling.
This audit query was raised by the Auditor General report into the 2016/2017 financial year spending by the county government of Nairobi City.
In applying a restricted tendering process so that a particular company would supply the fireworks products, the county government was also found to have breached the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2015.
The county government was required to conduct an open tendering process to procure the products.
Payments made to the company that supplied the products were also made without contract documents to support the payments hence the office of the Auditor General says that the payments were consequently rendered dubious.
