Nairobi Continues To Bleed. What We Know So Far About The Latema Road Explosion

Nairobi Continues To Bleed. What We Know So Far About The Latema Road Explosion

According to Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo, a woman of Somali origin hired a cart pusher to help her carry a luggage but stopped him midway at Odeon Cinema, Latema Road, claiming she had left her ID at a certain stall.
As the cart pusher waited for the woman to go for her ID, there was a very loud explosion that emanated from the small box he was carrying on his cart.
The cart pusher and a newspaper vendor who was standing nearby sustained small injuries. The cart pusher had his right hand injured while the newspaper vendor had his right leg injured.
Nairobi security head Philip Ndolo confirmed that no other person was injured and he advised cart pushers to verify the contents of the luggage they carried for people to reduce the chances of such incidences happening again.
The bag also had a lot of nails alongside the improvised explosive device. This understandably was meant to increase the damage caused by the explosive device.
The woman had paid the cart pusher Sh100 upfront and neither meant attempts to bargain nor seek to pay after the service was rendered as many Nairobians prefer to.
This attack awakens the memories of six years ago when such attacks were common in the city. A grenade that went off in Gikomba open market killed several at that time.

EXCLUSIVE: Diving Deep Into The KDF Charcoal And Sugar Trade In Somalia

A cartel of powerful top military and political figures use the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as their pawns. While news outlets reported that the incursion into Somalia and the capture of the Kismayo port was to fight Al Shabaab, its strange that it has not been handed over to the Somali government yet. An entry point of imported sugar and contraband goods, an exit point of charcoal and a source of billions of Kenya shillings.

Journalists for Justice (JFJ), a project of the International Commission of Jurists took on a dangerous project in the years before 2015. A team of researchers went on the ground and behind the scenes to find out why the KDF were in Somalia. In their report and in the words of locals, ' Local journalists and businessmen in Kismayo also told JFJ researchers that “everyone knows they came for the port”.'

Years after entry in Somalia, there is no battle to be fought. The army has set up camps in Kismayo and all they do is to man the trade at the port.

Workers at the port in Kismayo told JFJ that around 230 trucks of 14 tonnes each leave Kismayo for Kenya, around 3000 tonnes a week. These numbers were corroborated by journalists, traders in  Dadaab and Dhobley, and drivers at both locations, accounting for the hundreds of trucks crossing the
border at Liboi and Amuma and arriving in the Dadaab camps each month. JFJ examined the trade at key points: Kismayo, Dhobley, Liboi, Amuma, Dadaab and Garissa.

It would seem that the sporadic attacks on Kenya are just normal business and a necessary evil according to the report.

Since Kenya invaded Somalia in October 2011, there has been a dramatic rise in terrorist attacks inside its borders. If Operation Linda Nchi really was intended to destroy alShabaab as then President Kibaki claimed, it has been a spectacular failure. Over 400 Kenyans have died in Kenya at the hands of the terror group since 2011
Moreover, it is an economy that thrives on insecurity. Stability and the proper functioning of law and order, regularized border crossings and lawful taxation would pose a greater threat to the circular trade than anything else. It is a textbook definition of a conflict economy in that war is more profitable (for a select and powerful few) than peace.

As details emerge of the masterminds and the planning of the 14 Riverside attack that happened on 15th January 2019, the sheer amount of money that passed through Kenyan systems into Somalia raises questions on who is behind all this. A prominent politician in Kenya has been quoted threatening to expose the financiers of Al Shabaab. This means that at least in the upper echelons of Kenyan society, it is clearly known who is sponsoring this war.

The profits made by KDF as at 2015 are mindboggling, we can only guess the amounts made now;

KDF and Jubaland forces control the Kismayo port. KDF and Jubaland officials levy a
tax of $2 per bag on imported sugar, an income of around $250,000 a week, or $13 million a year. Al-Shabaab taxes the trucks as they leave Kismayo at the rate of $1,050 each, (yielding an income similar to KDF, around $230,000 a week, or $12.2m a year). At Dhobley, the Jubaland administration collects a tax of Ksh60,000 per truck. To cross the border, the truck owners pay the KDF network Ksh60,000 per truck and then a further Ksh60,000 to the police in Dadaab.

That the KDF, Al Shabaab and local government are all in this shows the extent of the rot in the system and the grim future it holds for Kenya. Worse still, human rights violations go hand in hand with this business.

After the attacks on the bus and the mine in Mandera, Deputy President Ruto claimed that air strikes had killed “over 100 militants” at a training camp. However, the District Commissioner of Mandera town told Somali radio station Bar Kulan that jets had instead killed scores of livestock and one civilian. This is closer to the picture that emerged from JFJ interviews.

Before the business started, the leaders of the military had to make sure that all senior officials were on board and in support of the shady deals. If you were not willing to conduct yourself in that manner, you were removed.

He, and another senior KDF staff at the rank of general, independently corroborated the claim that the commander of KDF troops in Kismayo, Brig. Koipaton, collects the revenue on behalf of the KDF network in Kismayo. The senior KDF officer alleged that [the former commander], “Brig Ngere didn’t sing [the network’s] tune, he was replaced by a junior officer – Koipaton. Koipaton has risen very fast (this is rare). He works closely with [the KDF network] and Madobe. He is in charge of everything. They are involved in charcoal, sugar, clearly, just like other deals, and he deposits [the network’s] cut overseas.

 Over 67% of the smuggled sugar that enters Kenya comes in through Somalia (Kismayo). As a result, the flooding of cheap imported sugar has killed the local sugar industries. It is so bad that the sugar you use in your tea, although branded in a famous sugar factory name, may not be from that particular factory. Fraudulent businessmen pack the smuggled sugar into local brand names and sell it to wholesalers at ridiculous prices.

Sources say that some militant attacks have just been allowed to happen so that Kenyans divert their attention from more pressing needs. It's also sad that this report was not as extensively covered by Kenyan media to tell the truth.

Here is the full report.

Crying Maraga Roasted Online, Uhuru Says: Get Used To It #JudiciaryMassageParlour

Chief Justice Maraga expressed his frustrations after an online campaign smeared him and the Judiciary as enablers of corruption. President Uhuru teased him saying he was the one who halted an effort to muzzle bloggers and should therefore 'get used to it' and move on.

A hashtag appeared on Twitter attacking the Judiciary in the form of #JudiciaryMassageParlour.
The tweets were accompanied with digitally edited photos of members of the Judiciary, including the CJ, massaging criminals.

Here are some examples;

Seeing these, the Chief Justice vented saying that the war against corruption cannot be won with such gimmicks.

Here is his speech;

President Kenyatta gave his reply when he got the chance, saying the CJ should get used to bloggers.

Kenyans celebrated as one Selisio Karanja walked free, avoiding a 4 year sentence after he paid his 4 million shilling fine. Wait. Of course not. We are angry that a guy who was implicated in the loss of 47.6 million shillings, was asked to pay ten percent of that to the Judiciary. Very easy choice.

When news broke that NYS 1 suspect Selisio Karanja had received a conditional sentence, most Kenyans were angry because this was not a new thing. For some reason, it is now possible to steal a huge amount of money from government, buy the judiciary, then pay a fine and get released.

Most of these suspect hire crooked lawyers who know how to beat the system.

The ordinary Kenyan is left in a dilemma, because theft of public resources has become normalized. Now kids aspire to be politicians and tender-preneurs because academics takes you nowhere.

Raila Jr Asks Waititu To Join The 'Legalize Marijuana' Movement

Raila Odinga Junior believes Ferdinand Waititu should join the 'legalize marijuana' bandwagon. This is after Governor Sonko admitted that he used to smoke the stimulant with Mr Waititu while in parliament as MPs.

In an interview with Jeff Koinange, Sonko said that Waititu would hide the stash in his socks before heading to smoke it in one of the washrooms.

Kibra MP, Ken Okoth has pushed for the legalization of marijuana in the country, saying when controlled, it is not harmful. He adds that the legalization will be a big income earner for the taxman.

Although illegal, bhang is commonly smoked in the country especially in universities and in people's homes.

Here is the tweet;

South Africa and Canada recently made the herb legal in their countries and it remains to be seen which other countries will do the same.

DP Doctor Ruto Finally Responds To Uhuru Order

Deputy President, William Ruto, has responded to the executive order made by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He supports the order and says it should be replicated in all counties in Kenya, therefore making an informal order of his own.

The executive order on Monday all but made CS Fred Matiang'i the most powerful Cabinet Secretary in charge of all national government projects. The announcement also specified that the CS was to report to President Uhuru.

Here is DP Ruto's response;

He says that all officers of the Government of Kenya should align their operations and duties to the Executive order.

This, in essence, means  that all counties should have a team in charge of projects in the county led by a cabinet secretary of the county assembly.

It remains to be seen how this will work.

The President is away on official duty in the Democratic Republic of Congo to attend the inauguration of the nation's president elect.

Sonko: I Smoke Bhang With Waititu Babayao

Sonko: I Smoke Bhang With Waititu Babayao

The governor of Nairobi City County Mike Sonko has finally confessed what everyone knows, he used to smoke marijuana with the governor of Kiambu Ferdinand Waititu.
Appearing on Citizen TV, Mike Sonko expressed his disappointment with Waititu over the latter's decision to oppose the ban of 14 seater public service vehicles from Nairobi's Central Business District.
In a bizarre admission, Sonko detailed their smoking times during their stints as MPs between 2008 and 2013. Ferdinand Waititu Babayao was the member of parliament for Embakasi Constituency while Mike Sonko represented Makadara.
Mike Sonko claims that they used to smoke the substance inside a toilet within Parliament buildings and Waititu would hide the substance inside his socks.
This explains the behavior of both MPs during that time with Waititu being filmed more than once in demonstrations. Sonko infamously punched a wall that had been erected on public land.
Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu are no longer friends. It is widely known that the disagreements between the two cost Waititu the Nairobi governor seat which he lost to Evans Kidero.
Just recently Mike Sonko ordered and orchestrated the arrest of Kiambu's first lady for allegedly building a house on riparian land in Nairobi county. They are currently clashing on the issue of the vehicles ban.

OMG! This Chicken Can Play The Piano (VIDEO)

OMG! This Chicken Can Play The Piano (VIDEO)

Just when we thought we had seen it all, a video of a chicken playing a piano has surfaced online. The chicken was brought to the talent show to show off its skills on a small keyboard. Surprisingly, it uses its beak to hit the keys in a way we have never seen before.

Welcome to the crazy world of cool and crazy chickens.

A Twitter user labelled the chicken the most talented ever seen. We agree 100%.

Watch the video and be the judge.

The chicken's name is Jokgu and its time on America's Got Talent show is probably the most strange thing you have ever seen. It played the song 'America the Beautiful'

This is especially because all we know is that chickens are food and a source of more food (eggs).

Want to be a vegetarian now? Got to develop the talents of the next Mozart.

Here are more videos of Jokgu, the super chicken.

Blow To Muslims As Supreme Court Bans Hijab In School

Uncertainty deepens over religious inclusion in Kenya as Supreme Court banned the wearing of hijabs in Kenyan schools. The Court Of Appeal had overturned the decision to ban the Islam head attire but now the highest court on the land has given a final say.

In 2016, Justices Phillip Waki, Roselyne Nambuye and Patrick Kiage, directed that the ministry of Education should ensure new rules on school uniform are made and should not discriminate students based on their religion.

The case started in the High Court when students from a school in Isiolo complained that the school does not allow hijabs.

The trustees of the Methodist Church, which sponsors the Mixed Day Secondary School was strongly opposed to wearing hijabs and trousers from the onset and took the matter to the Appellate Court. When the Court of Appeal agreed to have hijabs worn, the church took the case to the Supreme Court of Kenya.

In summary, the High Court made the hijab illegal, the Court of Appeal made it legal, and now the Supreme Court has made it illegal. Initial opposition to the hijab was because it allegedly was 'illegal and discriminatory'.

However, the judges ruled that every school has a right to determine its rules. This means that some schools can still allow hijabs if they want.

How Kenyan Women Use Rexona To Get More Pleasure Rounds From Men

The Rexona deodorant was designed to help people to smell nice and mask the smell of sweat. Then a woman got curious and gave it its second job - a pleasure toy. Now it has its third job. Confessions by Kenyan couples show that the deo is used as a male desensitizer. Yup, reduce the feelings and get longer and more rounds for the culture 🤣.

In medicine, an active substance called Lidocaine reduces sensitivity of the man-tree just before intercourse. As a result, users can delay premature ejaculation.

As you know, and as can be witnessed by Otile Brown, being a many minute man is a favourite of the ladies.

Kenyan ladies who care for their men are now using the Rexona deo for this same function. Although not medically sanctioned, necessity became the mother of invention and for the randy women who need more wood for the fire, this had to work.

It is unknown if this is done without protection as the chemical may have side effects on the woman.

However, to fulfil and quench the thirst, they do what they have to do.

A significant population of men suffer from premature ejaculation and penile dysfunction due to bad health or use of drugs.

Maybe this is the savior?

Chief Atheist Says CBK Targeted Him For His Beliefs

Kenya's chief atheist, Harrison Mumia, now says he believes the Central Bank of Kenya targeted him for his atheism. Speaking during an interview with Tuko, Mumia joked that the 'thunder Christians have prayed for has finally hit me'.

The President of the Atheists Society of Kenya was sacked by the employer after tweets of a political nature appeared on his Twitter timeline. He continues to insist that the tweets were not his own. He claims that his account was compromised during the time in question.

Asked whether he thinks he should apologise to people his tweets have offended, he said that you should unfollow him if you do not agree with his views.

He recently posted on social media that God does not exist because he would have stopped the terror attacks at 14 Riverside and all the other attacks that happened since 1998.

He calls himself a 'realist' and urges Kenyans to be more critical of religious leaders who are scamming poor Kenyans.

The firing comes after a lengthy case where he appealed to his employer but his appeal was rejected.

'Many other employees make political statements on social media. This was just a targeting.'

Here is the interview;

Impending Political Extinction As Judges Prepare Ruling On Governor Awiti

Cyprian Awiti Loses Seat Homabay

An atmosphere pregnant with expectation hangs over the corridors of the Supreme Court as judges prepare the ruling on Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti. Strike one from the High Court, and strike two from the Court of Appeal nullified the election of the humbly built governor. The stage is now set for strike three.

The governor continues to hope that his win will be upheld. Logic and case history do not give his opponent the best of odds. Maybe it is time for him to hang his political boots.

Challenged by his opponent, Oyugi Magwanga, the judges at the lower level courts agreed that his election had irregularities and therefore, the governor was not validly elected.

In the Court of Appeal, the decision to nullify his election was agreed to by judges Otieno Odek, Fatuma Sichale, and Philip Waki.

It is then that he decided to go over to the highest court in the land.

However, not many have hope in his case and believe his goose was cooked long ago. It remains to be seen if this is true.

Unfortunately, he has many fans.

Nakuru based singer Avril Nyambura has revealed why he refused Naiboi's request to appear in his video 2 in 1 and gladly worked with Otile Brown yet it is the exact same concept.
In earlier interviews, Naiboi admitted that he reached out to Sanaipei Tande, Avril Nyambura and Victoria Kimani to send him clips of them jamming to his song so he could feature them in the music video but they all refused.
Sanaipei Tande told Naiboi that she could not do that unless her voice was being featured in the song, Victoria Kimani ignored him totally while Avril Nyambura flatly lied to him.
Avril Nyambura told Naiboi that she would send the clip only to start ignoring his calls and Whatsapp messages.
Avril has since appeared in Otile's new song that celebrates Kenyan ladies. When asked by a fan why she accepted to appear in the video and not in Naiboi's video, Avril said she was in hospital and did not also feel like working with Naiboi.

Rapper Octopizzo is being accused of having a hand in the death of 19 year old Kenneth Abom after he found him in his house. The deceased is said to have been assaulted by Octopizzo and even back to their Woodley estate house with blood stained clothes.

DP Ruto Reduced To Spectator As Uhuru Makes Matiang'i More Powerful

A storm brews in the Jubilee government after President Kenyatta gave an executive order that makes CS Fred Matiang'i the 'second most powerful' person in the government reporting solely to the President. The Executive order names the CS the chair of the coordination and implementation of government projects. Sources say that this is a move to cement his legacy. Is Matiang'i an unsworn prime minister?

The order, released on January 21, 2019 names CS Matiang'i as the Chairperson of the Framework of the Coordination and Implementation of National Government Development Programmes and Projects. He will be deputised by the Cabinet Secretary of the National Treasury and Planning.

The Interior CS will chair a new committee of all CSes and supervise all government projects, including Big Four agenda.

The order makes the CS in charge of Interior and Security in charge of possibly every project within the country. A Prime Minister is the only designation that comes close to such responsibility. Is this a sign of some thing to come.

As per the Constitution of Kenya, the functions of the Deputy President are as follows;

 (1) The Deputy President shall be the principal assistant of the President and shall deputise for the President in the execution of the President's functions.(2) The Deputy President shall perform the functions conferred by this Constitution and any other functions of the President as the President may assign.(3) Subject to Article 134, when the President is absent or is temporarily incapacitated, and during any other period that the President decides, the Deputy President shall act as the President.(4) The Deputy President shall not hold any other State or public office.
After this announcement, many do not know what the DP is supposed to do anymore.

France Throws Tantrums After Italy Says That The French Still Exploit Africa

The truth hurts. But it hurt France more when an Italian politician said that countries like France impoverish Africa and make people leave to try get into Europe. In the process, many migrants die in the Mediterranean sea. He added that France is only the 6th biggest world economy because it feeds on Africa and it should be 15th.

A diplomatic row might be brewing between neighbours France and Italy after Italian deputy prime minister said that France had "never stopped colonising tens of African states". He said that the European Union should impose sanctions on France.

The origin of the debate is after France blamed Italy for prohibiting rescue boats carrying migrants in the Mediterranean to dock in Italy. Italy then responded saying the French themselves have refused to accept migrants yet many come from their former colonies.

Twenty one countries in Africa speak French as a main language.

Mr Di Maio, did not apologize for his remarks even after France summoned Italy's ambassador.
His accusations were based on how France manipulates these African economies to use the CFA franc (which is a currency from the colonial-era).

"France is one of those countries that by printing money for 14 African states prevents their economic development and contributes to the fact that the refugees leave and then die in the sea or arrive on our coasts," he said.

"If Europe wants to be brave, it must have the courage to confront the issue of decolonisation in Africa."
