Kenyans React To Government Ban Of Demolitions In The Country
After a series of high profile demolitions in Nairobi, Kenya, the government has suspended all demolitions. For reasons ranging from grabbed land to construction in riparian land, the County of Nairobi has busied its bulldozers over the past few months.
On Thursday, the government released a notice that banned all demolitions to allow time for state agencies to consult.
Many speculate that this is due to the influence of the Deputy President after a hotel associated with him was at risk of demolition.
Kenyans and Twitter expressed their thoughts;
Kenya puts an end to building demolitions on the same day the Lands Commission was to decide whether to demolish @WilliamsRuto’s Weston hotel. #kenya #corruption pic.twitter.com/L0tYYIZ9Ry— Eyder Peralta (@eyderp) December 20, 2018
Arguing that Weston Hotel shdnt be demolished b/c it's a high stake investment,is the most disloyal argument. Nyamavilla, Airgate, Grand Manor, Taj Mall,SouthEnd owners all wantonly flouted the law and so did the owner of Weston. All must be dealt with a heavy hand.— Mukami (@Mukami_Mungai) December 20, 2018

@YussufIbra They should have stopped the demolitions after demolishing Weston hotel it's a way of protecting the hotel because it belongs to D. P and yet normal citizen's houses have been demolished— Zablon Onsase (@Zoozneger1) December 20, 2018
