Serious Concerns Raised Over Kenyan Election Voter Turnout
After the Kenyan elections came to a close on October 26 amid violence in some parts of the country, all eyes were on the electoral body, IEBC to deliver timely results and avoid the mistakes they had in the August 8 election. So far, they have 'not disappointed'. In fact, they have created a new form of statistics that statisticians and voters across the country are still trying to understand. Kudos to IEBC, we are heading somewhere!.
35,564 polling stations opened in today's poll. Turn-out 48% (est.). 27,124 form 34As have been posted on portal https://t.co/0f0tlSfOVC— IEBC (@IEBCKenya) October 26, 2017
The 48% was a BEST estimate turnout from the team. Latest actual figures from 267 constituencies show 6,553,858 Kenyans turned out to vote. https://t.co/F01ewf79kT— Wafula Chebukati (@WChebukati) October 26, 2017
Am I the only one waiting for Chebukati to convince me how the total turn-out jumped from 6.5M to 7.3?— Cyprian, Is Nyakundi (@C_NyaKundiH) October 28, 2017
Wafula Chebukati now tells us that of 19.6m reg’d voters, only 6.5m voted ... It means 30% turned up to vote & 70% boycotted ... #NowWeKnow— Donald B Kipkorir (@DonaldBKipkorir) October 27, 2017
"KIEMS Kits on close had 3.5M total cast votes, this wasn't anticipated, they projected 6M. Chebukati given 48% the rest is why there's delay🐥"— Kenya West© (@KinyanBoy) October 28, 2017

There was an on-air mix-up of results from Bungoma County and Mandera West constituency. The error is highly regretted #Ballot2017 pic.twitter.com/PivUYrQk80— Citizen TV Kenya (@citizentvkenya) October 28, 2017
