Uhuru Kenyatta Urges Nairobi MCAs To Spare Mike Sonko

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged members of the Nairobi City County assembly to drop the impeachment motion set to be tabled against embattled governor Mike Sonko.

The president made his case for sparing Mike Sonko when he met Jubilee affiliated MCAs who heeded the State House call for a meeting on Saturday.

All the MCAs were summoned to State House by the party leader through the majority chief whip June Ndegwa.

This meeting comes barely a week after Mike Sonko handed over 7 out of 10 critical functions of his county government to the national government.

The impeachment of Mike Sonko would force Nairobians to participate in a by-election after 60 days. Before the by-election, speaker Beatrice Elachi would be the governor in an acting capacity.

Nairobi City County has no deputy governor after Polycarp Igathe unfashionably left his seat citing hostile working environment at City Hall.

Nairobi County has 122 members of county assembly. 66 of these are members of Jubilee Party. 55 members of the assembly have already offered their signatures for the impeachment motion against Mike Sonko.

The MCAs have since dropped the motion.
