Over 100000 Teachers To Miss Their Leave Allowances In January
More than 100000 teachers will not get their leave allowance in January due to unavoidable circumstances, the commission has said.
Through the teachers service commission's spokesperson Kihumba Kamotho, the commission said that 102 619 teachers will have their leave allowances underpaid by between 2000 and 5000 due to a technical hitch.
Kihumba Kamotho said their payslip software stalled and made the error but it would be corrected in February. Consequently, the affected teachers will receive their leave allowances at the end of February.
The leave allowances are part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that was reached between the teachers through their unions and the employer that would see the teachers being paid leave allowances under one installment.
According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the payment was to be made together with the January pay.
This delay has raised concerns in the teaching fraternity with many teachers taking to social media to vent. Many teachers have said they are worried the government is trying to deny them what was rightfully awarded to them.
