South Africa has today said yes to marijuana. It has now become legal to consume weed as long as long as you do it in private. This news was welcomed by activists who have for a long period lobbied for the government to make the herb legal.

"Free the Herb", they said.

On Tuesday morning, the Western Cape High Court made the announcement and it became official that marijuana was legal.
The constitutional court made it final that it will now be okay to use dagga, as they call it in the African country.

“If everybody smoked a blunt, relieve the mind, the world could be a better place/if everybody took a break and we all just got wasted”
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony must be happy that the lyrics above, in their song Weed Song have been approved.
Deputy Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo delivered the judgment, which is hot on heels of Canada's decision to make the recreational drug legal.

What next?

The government of South Africa will in the next 2 years make the bill official law.  It is, however, as of Tuesday 18 September, allowed for private use.
Justice Zondo added that the ruling party ANC will decide what quantities are allowed for a single individual.

We reached out to the Government of Kenya for comment on this but there was no official reply by the time of going to press.
