Jacque Maribe Is Mentally Fit For Trial, Say Doctors

In line with the court order given by Justice Jessie Lessit, tests have proven that Jacque Maribe is indeed sane and therefore fit to face trial for the murder of Monica Kimani. It now remains the burden of the prosecution and witnesses to prove that she was involved in the death of the businesswoman alongside her fiance, Joe Irungu.

Ms Maribe has been in remand at the Langata Women's Prison as she awaits the plea hearing set for next Monday. Joe Irungu is also in remand awaiting the same hearing.

Their neighbour, Brian Kassaine was released on Thursday this week after reports emerged that he had agreed to testify against the two in exchange for dropped charges, which included handling an unlicensed firearm.

The battle lines have been drawn as the defence tries to prove, beyond reasonable doubt, and poke holes into the prosecution's case to allow Ms Maribe to either go free or get a reduced sentence.

Mr Irungu had already undergone a mental test and was proven to be ready for trial. He will be represented by lawyer Cliff Ombeta while Ms Maribe will be in the hands of lawyer Katwa Kigen.

Judas? Jacque Maribe's Neighbour Kassaine Released After Plea Deal

Brian Kassaine Spira, a suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani is free after an apparent plea deal in which he reportedly agreed to be a State witness. Mr. Kassaine, a neighbour to Jacque Maribe offered key links in the case after it came out that his gun was used by Joe Irungu in an attempted suicide.

A Kiambu court on Thursday released Mr. Kassaine even though he was guilty of handling an unlicenced firearm. After spending several nights in cell, he is thought to have agreed to testify against Ms Maribe and Mr Irungu as he was with them at some point on the night that the late Monica Kimani was murdered.

This explains the reason why Jacque Maribe and Joe Irungu were co-charged, earlier this week, for murder of the businesswoman.
Kenyan Twitter took sides with some saying likening him to Judas Iscariot, a well known betrayer of Jesus Christ. On the other side, many more understood why he would opt to testify against his friends for the sake of his freedom.

Education CS, Amina Mohammed has thrown her support behind lowering cutoff for teacher training to grade D+ in KCSE. This comes after backlash over the quality of training if such low grades were admitted into teaching institutions and courses. She added that the decision will apply affirmative action and factor in schools in regions that are marginalised.

She argued that the decision will improve the number of teachers in these regions and in turn improving the quality of education.

In September, the Kenya National Qualification Framework announced lower qualifications for students joining teacher training colleges.

TV anchor Jacque Maribe could not hold back her tears when the High Court directed that she will be remanded at the Lang'ata Women Prison. She was unfortunate to land in a case presided by Justice Jessie Lessit, who is known for her judgement to sentence former Miss Lang'ata Prison to death.

 A famous poem by  Irish poet W. B. Yeats in 1919, sums up this sad situation in a few words;

The court directed that Jacque Maribe undergo a mental test first before being taken to remand as she awaits plea hearing on Monday next week. Reports indicate that Bryan Kassaine Spira, a neighbour to Mr Joseph Irungu ‘Jowie’ and TV anchor Jacque Maribe, has now become a State witness, and will probably testify against the two accused.

Joe Irungu Was Sacked After He Was Caught Inside Female Staff Quarters In Dubai

A report by the Daily Nation indicates that Joe Irungu, the suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani, was sacked after he was caught in restricted female staff quarters while working in Dubai. The report further states that it was not the first time it happened as he was once caught inside a guest's room, which is against hotel policy. He worked at the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in the UAE.

Joe Irungu was engaged to TV anchor, Jacque Maribe and were planning to get married soon. The report further says that he had received several warning of gross misconduct before he was finally fired.

A source claimed that Mr Irungu, who worked as a security guard with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in the United Arabs Emirates, was fired after “a series of warnings” over his behaviour.
“He had received several warning letters,” said the source, who requested anonymity. “He worked at the hotel for only seven months before he was fired” for gross misconduct.
Mr Irungu, the source added, had been caught with alcohol in the staff quarters, which is a criminal offence in Dubai. He received a warning for the offence, but the management grew weary of him when, one day, he was caught inside a guest’s room. Guards do not usually gain access to guests’ rooms, and Mr Irungu was hard-pressed to explain what he was doing there.

While he managed to explain his way back into employment on these two occasions, Mr Irungu was finally sacked after he was caught inside staff quarters restricted to women, the source said yesterday

The Office of Public Prosecutions in Kenya on Tuesday charged Mr. Irungu alongside Jacque Maribe for the murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani.

Analysts say that the prosecution chose this path as it gives more probability of them nailing the suspects. Initially, many thought that Jacque would be charged for being an accessory to a crime. Now it seems it might be both.

The High Court has ordered that suspects Joe Irungu and Jacque Maribe to remain in police custody until next Monday when they will be presented to take their plea. Justice Jessie Lessit further directed that Jacque Maribe be taken for a mental assessment and Joe Irungu be given medical treatment.

After the directive from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) on Tuesday morning, TV anchor Jcaque Maribe and Joe Irungu were presented at the Kilimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

Jacque, represented by lawyer Katwa Kigen is the 2nd accused party in the offence of murder of businesswoman, Monica Nyawira Kimani.
The prosecution requested that Jacque be taken for a mental assessment and wait to take plea on Monday, a request which her lawyer objected.
However, Justice Lessit directed that the assessment go as planned.

On the other hand, Cliff Ombeta is the official legal counsel for Joe Irungu and he made a submission that ever since the court directed that his client be taken for further treatment, it had not been done. Mr Ombeta reported that Joe's hand had developed complications (paralysis) and his wound was even oozing pus. Justice Lessit directed that Joe be taken by police or prison authorities to hospital to get specialized treatment.
However, they will both remain in custody until Monday, 15th October 2018.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has confirmed that Joseph Kuria Irungu alias "Jowie" and Jacqueline Wanjiru Maribe will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 of the Penal Code. This in relation to the murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani. He further directed that they be immediately presented to the High Court to face charges.

Breaking : October 10 Confirmed As Public Holiday In Kenya #MoiDay

The Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Interior Ministry in Kenya, Fred Matiangi has confirmed, through a notice that Wednesday, 10th October will be a national holiday. This comes after speculation due to a lack of communication on the back of a High Court ruling that reinstated the day as a holiday. The holiday, formerly known as "Moi Day" was scrapped off before being reinstated after a case challenging its removal was lodged.

Muzzled: KTN Refuses To Air Allan Namu's Controversial Exposé On South Sudan

Celebrated investigative journalist, John Allan Namu, has intimated the details that led to Kenya's TV station, KTN, refusal to air a controversial expose on the death and corruption that plagues South Sudan. The piece, called "The Profiteers" #TheProfiteers was scheduled to air on KTN, even after sections of it were edited out as they mentioned the name of a senior person involved in the events surrounding the South Sudan conflict.

The documentary, produced under Namu's current employer, Africa Uncensored, is now on YouTube as journalist fight to share the truths surrounding issues hurting citizens of the African continent.
