😭😭😭Tears! Rafiki Misses Out On Oscar Nomination

😭😭😭Tears! Rafiki Misses Out On Oscar Nomination

Even the landmark ruling of the high court in Nairobi could not save Wanuri Kahiu and her masterpiece movie Rafiki from the curse of Ezekiel Mutua and his destructive Kenya Film and Classification Board.
The movie which was submitted for an Oscar nomination under the Best Foreign Language Film category has been rejected for the nomination because the ban imposed by KFCB is technically still in place.
At that time(time of presentation for consideration for nomination) it remained banned, therefore presenting a challenge as it failed to meet the Oscar Academy requirements.
This is a big disappointment especially for Kenyans who showed up to support the movie by attending the seven days screening as required by the rules for consideration for an Oscar nomination. Almost all the cinemas that screened the movie sold out the tickets.
Another Kenyan movie Njata was also disqualified from nomination after it emerged that the film was not released on a red carpet event and its premiere was screened at a community hall somewhere in Nairobi.
Fortunately for Kenyans, Supa Modo has been selected for the Oscars. The film highlights the plight of a single mother raising a mentally ill child. All the best for Supa Modo.
