Jakoyo Midiwo Defies Raila, Vows To Stay In The Race

Jakoyo Midiwo

Jakoyo Midiwo, a man who has continuously blamed Oburu Odinga for his political woes has vowed to stay in the parliamentary battle to the bitter end. The current minority leader lost to Elisha Odhiambo in the Orange Democratic Movement preliminaries and decided to run as an independent.
He claimed the process was rigged in Elisha's favor after unfair intervention by Raila Odinga's older brother, Oburu Odinga. Jakoyo Midiwo is on record saying Oburu Odinga is an impediment to Raila's presidential ambitions.
Jakoyo Midiwo has decided to go against the grain by defying Raila's orders that no one decamps from the party to run as an independent. Defying Raila Odinga's advice in Nyanza is deemed political suicide and more so in his home turf of Siaya County.
Many political pundits in the region say Jakoyo Midiwo's decision to support and campaign for Nicholas Gumbo who is running for Siaya gubernatorial race is what cost him the seat. The political fates of both Gumbo and Midiwo have already been sealed as the face inevitable defeats come August 8th.
The two have since taken their different paths as they campaign around the county. Jakoyo Midiwo now a lone wolf in Siaya County refers to himself as "Otada" which loosely translates to a tough man. The toughness will soon be crushed down by the voters who are keen to follow the six piece voting pattern as advised by Raila.
Jakoyo Midiwo is a cousin of Raila Odinga, a relationship status that has elevated him to high levels of Nyanza politics since 2002 when first became member of parliament for Gem.
