Missing Found Dead: Scary New Trend In Nairobi

From the famous like Chris Msando and the relatively unknown like Mildred Odira and the many unreported cases in Nairobi. A disturbing trend and wave of crime has gripped the capital city of Kenya, with many who go missing turning up dead or are never found again.

Ms Odira, 32, a switchboard operator based at Nation Centre, left her home in Kariobangi South at 4am on January 29. Her body was later found at City Mortuary on February 4th. The law of Kenya stipulates that a missing person report be lodged after 48 hours. The family say they had reported Ms Odira missing on Thursday, Jan 31 at the Kasarani and Buruburu police stations. A taxi driver is in custody over the same. (Reported 4 February 2019)

IEBC IT Manager Chris Msando goes missing on Friday night (July 27, 2017) and his family Sunday said they couldn't trace him. His body is later found at the City Mortuary on July 31st with his body showing signs of torture. He was one of the few staff at the IEBC with knowledge of where the ICT servers are kept. The case is still open. (Reported July 31 2017)

A student at Multimedia University of Kenya was found dead on Saturday, December 16 2017, almost a month after her family reported her missing. The family of 21-year old Diana Mumbi found her body at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary on Saturday morning, bringing an end to a month-long search for the first-year journalism student.  (Reported December 17 2017)

Former Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) student, Susan Njoki, who went missing on December 30, 2018, has been found dead.  Ms Njoki’s body was found lying at Nairobi’s City Mortuary on Monday, January 14, her elder brother, Suleiman Ngige, has confirmed. (Reported JAN 14, 2019)

The University of Nairobi Law student who went missing two weeks ago in Kasarani, Nairobi, has been found dead in Mombasa. The body of 25-year-old Dennis Munene, who went missing on May 9 2018, was found lying at the Coast General Hospital mortuary on Thursday May 24 2018. (Reported May 25 2018)

A man who had been reported missing was found dead at his house in Kayole, Nairobi, on Monday evening.   The 54-year-old had been missing since Saturday, police said, adding the state of his body indicated he died earlier. (Reported 2nd Jan 2018)

A 20-year-old woman from Mombasa who had allegedly been kidnapped was on Sunday found in Nairobi.  Saida Abderahman, who was eight months pregnant at the time she went missing on Thursday last week, was reportedly found in Pumwani area by a good samaritan who linked her with her family. (Reported September 23 2018)

A man who booked into a hotel three weeks ago but went missing was found dead in his room.
The body was found in a sitting position on a chair at Wadies Hotel in Ngara, Nairobi, on Wednesday. (Reported on November 23 2017)

The body of a Kenyan lawyer who was representing a client making a complaint against the police has been found. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) said Willie Kimani's death was a "dark day for the rule of law in Kenya". Mr Kimani, who was 32, went missing along with his taxi driver and client after a court appointment over a week ago, the LSK said. (Reported July 1 2016)

These are just a glimpse of a fraction of cases that are covered by media. Although some end in families getting justice and perpetrators being brought to book, most just go cold.
