2nd Term Governors Stare At Political Oblivion Come 2022
The constitution of Kenya only allows governors to lead for a maximum of two terms (10 years total). What happens to the political life of Governors already in their second terms? Daily Updates looks at their options.
In total 22 County kings face the transition into political darkness.
As the twilight nears, many have started scheming for survival. As they meet during the Council of Governors, issues that arise include this.
Power is sweet.

Money, police escorts and other trappings of power characterise their lives. Although the government provides for retirement budgets, the change will be a huge hit to their finances.
First of their options is taking a stab at the presidency.
According to the laws of probability, only one of the 22 can be president. Or none of the 22.
This means that the odds are against them considering that DP William Ruto has his eyes fixed on the big prize. Furthermore, the Deputy President has access to even more resources.
Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) have either publicly declared or been named as potential presidential candidates.
Council of Governors Chair Wycliffe Oparanya also says that he might consider it. He has even sought support from Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula who also have the same ambitions.
I can’t be helping people every day. It’s time they also helped me. As they have been unable to clinch the seat, let them leave this thing and pave the way for me.
However, some Governors have had enough and would gladly work behind the scenes come 2022. One such example is Embu Governor Martin Wambora, whose time at the helm of Embu is nothing short of magical.
