Kisumu Cheats On Nurses Strike, Hires Contractual Plan B's
The County of Kisumu has decided to betray the Nurses strike and hire other nurses on the side. This is to ensure that health services in the county are not disrupted.
As a lesson from the last major nurses strike that hurt thousands, the county government has said that they will give out contracts to nurses to replace those on strike.
The temporary nurses are a solution after Governor Anyang' Nyong'o had asked nurses to go back to work as their matter was being handled.
In a statement by the Governor's Press Unit on Saturday, the county department will deploy the emergency nurses immediately.
The Health Department called upon all qualified nurses to report to the Kisumu County Hospital and be a part of considering the rights that all patients have to access affordable health care.
The nurses's strike is still active in 11 counties across the country.
The nurses in Kisumu had received an ultimatum to go back to work on Friday by 4pm but they had defied the order. They insisted that their demands had to be met before they went back to active duty.
While a court notice had stopped the strike for 60 days to allow for negotiations, KNUN deputy secretary general Maurice Opetu said the strike will continue.
