Ticking Time Bomb As Mathari Mental Nurses Join Strike
Nurses based at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital have announced their intentions to join their colleagues from other hospitals that are taking industrial action against their employer across the counties.
This could lead to a catastrophic situation at the only psychiatric hospital in the country. It has a capacity of 675. The last time the nurses went on strike there was an emergency situation as patients started to escape.
Nurses have vowed to continue with their strike despite a court order that suspended the strike for 60 days pending talks with the county governments. Seth Panyako, a union official, said they are ready to go to jail and swore to thwart any intentions to take nurses for a ride.
He government should not wait until nurses lead to the streets. Lives have/will been lost#KNH, Moi, Mathari on strike. U/c @SicilyKariuki— John Mbau (@JohnyMbau) February 11, 2019
