Kiambu Woos Addicts With 1500 Capacity Rehab

Kiambu's perennial problem of alcohol and drugs is set to come to an end when the new rehab is completed. The sh 465 million facility will be housed at Karuri Level 4 Hospital and will cater to 1500 patients at a time.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Ferdinand Waititu was grateful for the funding from health organisation Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF). He said that the facility will not only serve Kiambu residents but also drug users from other counties.

According to NACADA, Kiambu is number 4 in cases of drug addiction with Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kisumu being the worst hit.

The reason I started Kaa Sober programme is because I wanted to help our young people who are hooked to drugs and anybody supporting this cause is much welcome. We have an international investor who will build a rehabilitation centre that will go a long way into helping people who use drugs.

Waititu said that although his critics fault his methods of rehabilitating the youth, his is a noble cause that will even have all youths have access to development funds.

The project is expected to take 3 years to complete.
