Safaricom Worried As Airtel In Talks To Buy Telkom Kenya
India's Bharti Airtel is in talks to buy Kenya's smallest telecoms operator Telkom Kenya in a bid to pose a stronger challenge to the market leader Safaricom.
The two companies held merger talks last year but the talks collapsed for unknown reasons. At that time, it was Telkom Kenya that had approached Bharti Airtel.
Helios Investment, a London based company is looking to cash out the investment it entered into in 2015. Helios Investment owns 60 per cent of Telkom Kenya.
Safaricom has continued to face significant competition from the two telecoms companies created by aggressive marketing and expansion moves by the two.
