DP Ruto Does The Unthinkable, Wipes The Tears Of Cane Farmers

The deputy president of the republic Dr William Ruto has assured sugarcane farmers in Western region that the government is finalizing plans for the payment of all their debts owed.
According to the deputy president William Ruto, Ksh1.9 billion out of the Ksh2.7 billion owed to the farmers will be paid to the farmers in a bid to address the problems they face. He also said that the money had been secured.

William Ruto was speaking at the burial of the mother of Mumias East MP Honorable Benjamin Washiali, Peletina Akhakinya Washiali in Shitoto Village, Kakamega County.
William Ruto said that plans were underway to revive the struggling sugar industry in the industry and this was the first step towards the right direction.

The farmers were also assured that they would be paid directly and not through the factories to avoid swindling of the money. Also to note is that only genuine farmers rightfully owed by the factories will be paid.
The issue of sugarcane farmers and their dues has been at the epicenter of presidential campaigns with those eyeing the Western vote often using it as campaign tool.
During previous elections, former Kakamega County senator Boni Khalwale accused former Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero of running down Mumias Sugar Company which was responsible for the biggest chunk of sugarcane purchases in the sugar belt.

So consistent and strong were his attacks that the governor took him to court for slander. The case is still ongoing.
The deputy president claims the payouts will benefit at least 30,000 households in Kakamega. He asked parents who had not enrolled their children in high schools to do it as soon as possible.
