Kenya Police Statement On Turkana West Pokot Clashes

The Kenya police has come out to give a statement on the ongoing clashes in Turkana and West Pokot counties suspected to be a war between the Turkana and Pokot communities.

The Women Representative of West Pokot, Lilian Cheptoo says that the only way to solve this issue is to build a wall between the two warring counties. She believes this will stop the clashes as the government has failed in keeping security.

For over seven days now, businesses in the counties have lost almost Ksh 180 million dues to the unrest. It has not been possible to engage in trade.

The Kenya Police released a statement about the matter:

We wish to inform the public that in the wake of the recent spate of rustling / bandit attacks around Kainuk and its environs along the border of Turkana / West Pokot Counties, the Inspector  General has ordered the Regional Police Commander, Rift Valley to use all ... 1/3
...available Police resources to stop the violence and restore order to allow members of the public to lead normal lives.
The RPC has further been ordered to step up investigations into the role of certain identified individuals who are suspected of inciting violence... 2/3
..in the area, & bring them to book in accordance with the law. We therefore call on members of the public to cooperate with Police Officers in an effort to deal with the rustlers who are out to wreck the peace and trust that the local residents have built amongst themselves. 3/3
